I'm just now catching up on all the excitement from these past few weeks. The first of which needs to be recorded in the history books. Because truly, it was a miracle.
No matter the situation, going home from Rexburg is always an epic adventure. This past time was no exception. I drove with the Ross Monster all the way to Boise, and then I was to catch a plane to Portland later that day....
The day started off at around 6 in the morning, when I woke up and got ready for the looong day. I was extremely tired since me and Katie stayed up till the wee hours of the morning discussing important things...which I can't remember now... anyways, it had been snowing all night and we knew there was a storm coming in. Ross came and got me from Katie's and we went to his apartment. Where I helped the boys clean up and do their clean checks...silly boys.
We left town about 7:30am and drove to I.F. where we'd get gas. The trip to I.F. was kind of intense...Ross' tires were pretty much bare and we kept fish tailing it. Right off the back I was pretty nervous. We prayed the car would function properly and that the cars on the road would be safe, and that we would arrive on time.
Through almost white out conditions and horribly slick roads, we were trucking along. We kept fish tailing and neither of us could tell if it was the wind or ice that was making us wobble back and forth. There were many cars that were on the sides of the roads from spinning out between I.F. and Poccatello. I got pretty nervous, but we were being really careful. About 10 minutes outside of Poke, the car hit ice and we began spinning. It felt almost surreal and we both didn't say anything until the car had stopped.
Miracle number one: no one was anywhere near us. We stayed on the road and the car went right back to driving once Ross gained control again.
Well about now we both were freaking out pretty bad. A few minutes after we had spun out, we drove past a truck on it's back... and both of us realized we were lucky, and thanked Heavenly Father for our safety and realized God was telling us we needed new tires. We stopped in Poke, where we found a Wal-Mart with a lady that looked stunningly just like Snooky. It takes about an hour to get to Poke from I.F...it had taken us two. We knew it was only going to get worse and my flight was leaving in five hours. If the roads were completely clear, we would make it to Boise in three hours... The wait line was two hours.
and here's where I realized I wasn't going home that day. We waited patiently and walked the entire Wal-Mart a few times..it was HUGE. Both of us were exhausted so we slept on a bench in the middle of the store.
Miracle two: The car was finished in an hour.
we prayed probably for the fifth time that day and began driving again. The roads were quite clear for a while and I thought we might make it back in time for my flight. About an hour out of Poke, a car passed us going WAY too fast for the conditions. Ross was pissed for a few seconds and then before our eyes she began to spin out. She did a few complete circles and then went flying down the hill on the side of the road. I screamed and dialed 9-1-1.
miracle three: Not only was her car completely dent free, she had barely missed a huge pole as well as a few large rocks. She was out of the car when we got down to her and other than being shaken up, she was completely fine.
The snow plow called for a tow truck and once we knew she was fine, we continued on again.
I think we prayed again once we were in the car that she was far enough away from us we were able to stop in time, and again that we would safely make it to Boise. The roads from that point out weren't terrible, or at least they were nothing compared to what we had been through so far. The only problem was Ross' windshield wiper liquid was out. It was pretty hard to see out of the car so we made stop number four in Burley, where we bought anti-freeze...guess what? It was pretty much full, just clogged from snow.
After that the roads were fine and we went sailing to Boise. We made great timing and got to the airport about 2:00.
miracle four: I made my flight, with hours to spare.
I swear my trips home just get more and more exciting!
p.s. yes that was long. sorry. {in Gilly's voice}
